Case studies

The following pages show case studies of where ArupCompute has been used to effectively deliver project value.

If you have used ArupCompute for projects or services we would love to hear from you! Please email [email protected] and tell us what you have been doing!

Digital Services

The major benefits to digital services utilising ArupCompute in their system design are:

  • A component of the system can be outsourced to ArupCompute, reducing investment and maintenance costs
  • The ArupCompute parts of the systems can be coded by engineer-coders, freeing up the full-time software developers to work on the parts of the system that require their expertise
  • Functions created for the service are available for reuse in different services or projects

Matidor

Matidor

Americas Ventures have partnered with an external startup called Matidor to create a community energy master planning and analysis tool.

The combined tool allows municipalities, developers, and engineers to quickly build and compare different scenarios for energy network layouts, which can be especially valuable for projects with carbon reduction goals.

Arup have created a community energy masterplanning API, that Matidor have integrated into their web platform. DesignCheck Mechanical engineering calculations were combined with bespoke network analysis and load estimation routines hosted in a library on ArupCompute.

A standalone instance of ArupCompute was setup so that the external API could only access the library Arup had developed. Authentication was via a client secret hosted on the Matidor server.

Iris / CRISP

CRISP

IRIS and CRISP are two different digital services created by the Europe region. Both assess portfolios of building assets. IRIS assesses for risks e.g. disruption due to earthquakes or flooding. CRISP shows client how to best decarbonise their assets.

Both systems use ArupCompute in the background to undertake data processing. CRISP used DesignCheck to turn a (very, very, very) large spreadsheet produced by the EU for undertaking portfolio carbon calculations into a web-API that would also produce a line-by-line report.

Project Jupiter

project-jupiter

Project Jupiter is a web-based tool Americas ADE created for a confidential client involved in the manufacture of electric vehicles. The site allows the client staff members to assess electrical demands for locating production in different locations.

ArupCompute hosts a client-specific electrical engineering calculation library. The client uses a web page to construct the requests, which are then routed through a 'man-in-the-middle' server to ArupCompute. This extra hop ensures that the client can only run the functions required by the app.
